Tips to increase PTE Speaking Score

Hi friends! Before we begin talking about the various item types on the PTE, we are going to see some important tips to increase PTE Speaking score. We have seen so many aspirants struggle to get the required score on the Speaking skill. This article will help both the first time and the returning test takers to increase PTE Speaking score.

Tips to increase PTE Speaking score

Tip #1

Do not ignore the Personal Introduction part. It serves as an ideal item type to get the momentum going. It helps you try out intonations, get into rhythm with your speech and get your fluency going.

Tip #2

Do not be mechanical or robotic in your speech. This is number one mistake that aspirants make. There is a false belief among test takers that speaking fast is tantamount to good oral fluency. Oral fluency is about identifying and stressing on certain words, pausing after a comma or a full stop and fluctuating the voice according to the meaning of the sentence or paragraph. Do this and you will see phenomenal improvement in your Oral Fluency score.

Tip #3

Use gestures. Yes, you heard it! This is an exercise I often do with my students in classroom. I ask them to role play their favorite Hollywood character and try and emulate not only his way of speech but also his gestures. Gesturing helps you bring out the feeling and emotion required to fluctuate your voice.

Tip #4

One of the most important tips to increase PTE Speaking score is to pay attention to the audio status box. You should start speaking only when the status changes to “Recording”, not otherwise. Secondly, make sure that you keep speaking all the time. If you don’t speak for 3 seconds, the microphone will automatically close. It will not record whatever you say thereafter. If you get stuck at a particular point, use fillers like “I also think that…”, “Moreover, we can also say that..ah..”, “Furthermore, the speaker also talks about…”, etc.

Tip #5

Focus on improving your pronunciation. You need to practice speaking with Google speech to text converter. Take up a random paragraph or a lecture and try speaking into the Google speech to text converter. See how many of your words are translated from speech to text. Identify words that you are mispronouncing and learn their pronunciations on Google.
