PTE Speaking – Read Aloud
Read Aloud is one those item types which aspirants tend to take casually. But make no mistake, because this is one of those item types that will not only help you increase Speaking score, but also the Reading score.
What is Read Aloud?
This is the first item type on PTE Speaking and writing part. You will see a paragraph on the screen and you will get enough time to go through the text. Thereafter, when the audio status changes to “Recording”, you must read that paragraph into the microphone.
This is how the Read Aloud screen may look like on the real PTE:
Depending on the length of the text, you will get 30 seconds to 40 seconds time to go through the paragraph.
Generally, the preparation time and the attempt time are same. So, the attempt time is also between 30 seconds and 40 seconds depending on the length of the text in the given paragraph.
Number of questions
Depending on the combination of questions in the test, you will find 6 to 7 questions of Read Aloud on the PTE Speaking and writing part.
The length of the text in the paragraph could be up to 60 words. However, generally speaking, the length varies between 40 words and 60 words.
The scoring happens on three parameters – Content, Pronunciation and Oral Fluency. The maximum score that you can get on Pronunciation and Oral Fluency parameters is 5 points each per question. The maximum score for the Content parameter changes according to the length of the content.
Whatever score a candidate musters gets divided across Speaking and Reading sections.
