PTE Speaking – Repeat Sentence
Repeat Sentence is one such item type which has been a cause of concern even for the most advanced learners of English. Contrary to the popular belief, we would show you why this is one of the easiest question patterns on the PTE Speaking section.
What is Repeat Sentence?
This is the second item type on PTE Speaking and writing part. You will listen to the recording of a sentence. You have to remember it. Once the audio status changes to “Recording”, you need to repeat the sentence verbatim.
This is how the Repeat Sentence screen may look like on the real PTE:
You will not be given any separate preparation time.
You will have 15 seconds to repeat the sentence.
Number of questions
Depending on the combination of questions in the test, you will find 10 to 12 questions of Repeat Sentence on the PTE Speaking and writing part.
The sentence that you will be hearing will be between 3 to 9 seconds in length.
The scoring happens on three parameters – Content, Pronunciation and Oral Fluency. The maximum score on the Pronunciation and Oral Fluency parameters is 5 points each. The maximum score on the Content parameter is 3 points. Whatever score a candidate musters, gets divided across Speaking and Listening sections.
PTE Master Tip
The secret to scoring high on Repeat Sentence item type is simple – you need to focus on pronunciation and oral fluency parameters. This might come as a surprise to many as the candidates are more afraid about the possibility of not being able to remember the entire sentence. But here’s something you might not know: even if you speak only 50% of the entire sentence, you get 2 out of 3 points on the content parameter!
